Bestia (lat.) - animal, wild beast, evil person, monster.
A bestiary is a medieval book of beasts – a collection of articles with illustrations and allegorical descriptions of various animals. The authors looked for similarities between the images of the creatures and the images and concepts of religion and morality, deciphering them like hieroglyphs. Nature was perceived as an arena of constant struggle between good and evil forces. (Wikipedia)
Maria Sorina is a well-known, accomplished artist, with a recognizable and bold artistic style. Her works reflect how the artist sees reality and the world around her. Maria Sorina is not only a talented artist, she is also a very brave and optimistic person with an unusual story and a very complicated life path.
During her 24 years, Maria experienced several events that turned her life upside down, but shaped her as an artist. A serious illness suffered in childhood, as well as the events of recent years - the war in Ukraine and the war in Israel - heavily influenced her work.
Maria was born in Moscow in 1999. From the age of 10 to 20 she exhibited in the best art galleries in Moscow. After the start of the war with Ukraine, on March 8, 2022, Maria left Russia and immigrated to Israel. But on October 7, war came to Israel as well. War is everywhere now. First of all, it is in the souls of people and this is scary.
The beast, according to Maria, is “something crazy, galloping, with the antlers of a deer, with large teeth and claws, and four or six legs.”
What the artist wanted to express through her series of beasts is easy to understand by looking around, where a human can easily turn into a beast...
The exhibition will feature artist's works over the past two years, created in Israel.
